Cheri says it was a blessing to have become a part of United Methodist Women, as she puts it "back while the dinosaurs still roamed the earth!" She was only partially kidding … her Christian walk was so shaped as a young woman from learning how to BE a servant from the amazing women of Jasper First UMC. She was so impressed by how they ministered to others, even breaking apart the Sunday flower arrangement every Monday morning and taking small bouquets to shut-ins, it made her WANT to be a better Christian.
Having held several leadership positions in UMW, mostly as Circle Leader and now serving her second term as president, allowed Cheri to help guide UMW efforts for the maximum benefit to others. She thinks UMW members are so caring and fun to spend time with that they can learn and grow and serve together.
Cheri grew up in California but has lived and traveled around the world. She transplanted in Alabama back in the '70s and raised her family here. She just recently retired from a 37 year career with mental health. She still loves to travel, loves to cook and entertain, take pictures, learn about and try new things, read, study, and do “fun stuff” with friends ...or even just be alone. Cheri says the UMW ladies and her Sunday School class includes my closest, dearest friends and have helped her get through some impossibly difficult times of late. "I thank God for them every single day. I am truly blessed.", she said.
